Dance Type: Lyrical
Lyrical dance is a fusion of ballet and jazz dance styles. Lyrical Dance interprets the music accompaniment in an emotionally expressive way. Lyrical dance has recently grown in popularity. Lyrical dance first began as an expression of jazz music. However, lyrical dance currently combines and extends a plethora of traditional dance genres, resulting in lyrical ballet, lyrical jazz, modern lyrical, contemporary lyrical, lyrical hop.
Instructor: McKenzie Kock
McKenzie Kock was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she attended Balleraena Dance Studio for 15 years and was a member of the Balleraena Dance Company for 3 years. During her time at Balleraena, she traveled to New York under a dance scholarship and has studied under well known artists such as Eric John Campros, Tracie Stanfield, Dana Alexa, Matt Steffanina and more. During her years at Lincoln High School, she participated in the LHS dance team and competitive/sideline cheer team. After graduating from Lincoln in 2015, she began school at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and graduated in May of 2019 with a BA in exercise science and a minor in dance. During her time in Mankato, she cheered for the MSU football and basketball sideline cheer teams, serving as captain her senior year. She also taught ballet, pre-pointe, and competition dance at Spotlight Dance Company. She has been a member of the LiRa Dance Theater Company since 2015 which was the first professional dance company in Sioux Falls. McKenzie stays busy with participating in Dancing With the Sioux Falls Stars, working at Move Boutique, choreographing, teaching, and stage managing.
